Attorney at Law is currently in his 24th year practicing law in coastal North Carolina serving Carteret County (Beaufort), Onslow County (Jacksonville) and Craven County (New Bern).
A summa cum laude graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College and a 1993 graduate with a Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University Law School.

W. David McFadyen III
W. David “Dave” McFadyen III was born in New Bern, NC. Upon graduating from New Bern Senior High School, where he played varsity soccer and ran track, he attended East Carolina University and later graduated from North Carolina State University. He enrolled in law school at the Appalachian School of Law in Virginia to fulfill a lifelong aspiration of attending law school and becoming an attorney. After graduating from law school, Dave accepted an attorney position at the Kellum Law Firm in New Bern, focusing his practice there in the area of Civil Law and Litigation. In late 2006, Dave and his father, retired 3-B District Attorney W. David McFadyen, Jr., opened the McFadyen Law Firm – which later added a partner and became Valentine and McFadyen, P.C. – where he practices to this day. His practice is concentrated in the areas of Criminal, Juvenile, and Civil Law. He takes great pride in his work with juvenile and indigent clients, and works diligently to ensure they, like the rest of the clients he serves, receive quality representation.
His hobbies include listening to music, boating, reading, watching college sports, and biking, although his greatest joy in life is spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife Erica for 13 years. They have an eight-year-old son, Mac, and a five-year old labrador retriever named Scout. Dave volunteers his time to the area in many ways. Among other things, he has coached and refereed youth sports.

Lionel Walter Mills
Currently is the chief district court judge. He was appointed to the court by former Gov. Mike Easley (D) in January 2007, and he was appointed chief district court judge on February 8, 2012.
Re-elected to the court on November 8, 2016.
Received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University in 1987 and his J.D. from the Michigan State University Law School in 1998. Mills
Worked as a private practice attorney for eight years prior to his judicial appointment in 2007.

Bob R. Cherry
Bob R. Cherry of Newport was appointed by Governor Cooper as District Court Judge in Judicial District 3B, serving Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico counties. Cherry filled the vacant seat previously held by the Honorable Paul Quinn, who is now a Superior Court Judge in District 3B. Cherry founded Bob R. Cherry, PLLC, until becoming Assistant District Attorney in Prosecutorial District 3B. He previously served as a full time instructor for eight years and an adjunct professor for eleven years for the University of Central Florida’s Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department. During that time, he coauthored two textbooks and a peer reviewed article.
